Brown will discuss “how we got here” with regard to immigrants in the United States. She’ll cover challenges in federal legislation and policy-making, the increase in interest from states and localities in investing in the lives of immigrants, the impact of COVID-19 on the immigrant communities, and how we can create a cohesive future for America, immigrants, and our immigration system.
Panel: Our Cities and COVID-19 Recovery

We’ll discuss issues in the four cities with the largest immigrant populations in Fairfield County: Danbury, Stamford, Norwalk, and Bridgeport. Specifically, the panelists will explore the immigrant experience in each city and provide thoughts on COVID-19 recovery. Panelists will include: Kit Sathong, Program Coordinator of Regional YMCA; Barbara Lopez, Executive Director of Make the Road CT; Eric Lopez, Community Organizer & Programming Coordinator of Connecticut Students for a Dream; and Anka Badurina, Executive Director of Building One Community.

Panel: Innovations and Success in Immigrant Support

We’ll discuss cross-sector collaborations, including those with local government, designed to build the capacity to support immigrant communities, as well as explore ideas for multiple organizations to share space to provide co-located services. Panelists will include: Karen Gottlieb, Executive Director of Americares Free Clinics; Marissa Mangone, Director, Business Development of Child Guidance Center of
Mid-Fairfield; and Alicia Kinsman, Senior Staff Attorney & Technical Advisor of Connecticut Institute
for Refugees and Immigrants.
