SUMMARY:Introduction to Sustainability and Succession Planning
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will introduce participants to a comprehensive model and time-frame for assessing and managing Organizational Sustainability and Succession. Participants can expect the following outcomes: \n\nFamiliarity with the Sustainability and Succession planning frame\, with attention to leadership and staff development\nUnderstanding of key trends effecting mission and organizational sustainability\nInitial assessment of participant’s organizational readiness using the “Sustainability Assessment Checklist”\nActionable next steps\n\nAt the conclusion of the workshop all participating organizations will be offered a follow-up phone coaching session to take place within three months of the completion of the workshop\, and will focus on implementing the outcomes of the workshop in their organizational planning processes. \nThis workshop is meant for Executive Directors and their Board Chair (or other appropriate board member). A maximum of 2 attendees per organization is allowed. The fee to participate is $125 per organization\, and includes coaching time up to three months after the workshop. \nThe workshop will be led by Stewart Lanier of TSNE MissionWorks\, a leader in New England in guiding and facilitating nonprofit organizational assessments\, strategic planning\, organizational and executive transitions. \nThis workshop is by invitation only. DESCRIPTION:Data Bootcamp is a day-long training focused on data analysis and data visualization for nonprofit professionals. Our users are looking for opportunities to learn in a hands-on workshop style and to have supportive instructors close at hand. In the first half of the day\, we will practice data analysis in spreadsheeting format\, including constructing formulas\, creating pivot tables and generating descriptive statistics. In the afternoon\, we will explore data visualization as an analytical tool and for reporting purposes. DESCRIPTION:This event is sold out.\nThe conference is co-sponsored by the Center for Nonprofits in the Welch College of Business and Technology\, the Master of Public Administration Program at SHU and Fairfield County’s Community Foundation. \nJoin other nonprofit leaders for an informative discussion how to move your organization forward in a time of difficult management and financial challenges. This conference will focus on solutions rather than restating problems. External factors such as financial pullback by the state\, overall reduction in giving\, increased demand for services\, and greater scrutiny and demand for performance metrics by funders have created a “new normal.” \nThe result is that NPOs must rethink how they operate. What is required? \n\nRethinking the organization’s purpose\, operating methods and scope of services\nMore collaboration\, forming partnerships\nMerging with “competitors” or complementary organizations\nAdoption of business solutions/applications/measurement tools\nGetting beyond survival; more strategic thinking\nDeveloping a new generation of NFP leadership\nChanging the dialogue about the role of the nonprofit sector.\n\nCan we identify the “disruptive” influences that can change how NPOs operate? Some larger organizations have embraced “social enterprise” which speaks to the intersection of business and socially responsible organizations. Are these principles applicable to smaller/medium size nonprofits? This conference will help answer these questions in addition to hearing from one of the NPOs space’s most entertaining and professional speakers. \nKeynote Speaker: Vu Le\nVu Le (“voo lay”) is a writer\, speaker\, vegan\, Pisces\, and nonprofit leader who has spent over 13 years as an executive director. He is experienced in nonprofit management\, capacity building\, leadership development\, fundraising\, and funding dynamics\, all done with a lens of equity\, diversity\, inclusion\, and social justice. \nVu’s passion to make the world better\, combined with a low score on the Law School Admission Test\, drove him into the field of nonprofit work\, where he learned that we should take the work seriously\, but not ourselves.
