Brady’s Story: When a Scholarship Adds Up

Brady Lewis knows.

A rising senior studying marketing at Rutgers University, Brady is a Brooklawn Country Club Caddie Scholar. His scholarship covers tuition and housing, and the impact extended well past his bursar bill.

“Honestly, it’s huge,” Brady says. “Full tuition and housing means I’m graduating debt-free, which means I get to actually chase a career in golf instead of just picking whatever pays the bills.”

Brady has worked at the PGA Championship with Summit Golf Brands and completed an internship with Darien-based Arccos Golf, gaining experience in partnerships, customer service, and course mapping while working alongside major companies including Amazon and Twitch.

The scholarship did more than pay for college.

Instead of organizing his college years around how to pay the next tuition bill, he could seek internships, build professional relationships, explore an industry he loves, and start creating the career he wants.

Brady first learned about the Brooklawn Country Club Caddie Scholarship while caddying at Sankaty Head Golf Club in Nantucket. He watched older caddies talk about what receiving the scholarship would mean for their future.

“It lit a fire under me to apply,” he recalls.

But his story also illustrates something philanthropy often does at its best: it creates a chain of opportunity.

Club members encouraged him. The Sankaty Head Foundation supported him. Mentors helped him prepare for college. A scholarship removed a financial barrier. Employers gave him opportunities to build professional experience.
