Creating ‘systemic change’: Fund for Women & Girls to host annual fundraiser

The biggest fundraiser for one of the Northeast’s largest funds for women will take place in Greenwich this week.

On Thursday, Fairfield County’s Community Foundation’s Fund for Womenand Girls will hold its annual luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich. The event allows hundreds of people to hear inspirational speakers and learn more about the Fund’s work to support women’s issues in Fairfield County, said Juanita James, president and CEO of the foundation.

“They had a big vision for what they thought they could do to create systemic change,” James said of the fund’s founders, who commissioned a report early on in their efforts to find out what problems needed addressing and then made a plan to tackle their root causes. The results of that report, published in 2008, prompted them to focus on primarily single mothers and helping them attain economic security, James said.
