Soccer Phenom & World-Changer Abby Wambach Is the Featured Keynote Speaker at the Fund for Women & Girls Annual Luncheon

(Norwalk, CT) On April 7, 2016, Fairfield County’s Community Foundation’s Fund for Women & Girls will host soccer phenom and equality advocate Abby Wambach as the keynote speaker at their Annual Luncheon at the Hyatt Regency in Greenwich, CT. The theme of the Luncheon is ‘WOMEN & GIRLS = STRENGTH, RESILIENCE, POWER’.
Fairfield County’s Community Foundation’s Fund for Women & Girls Annual Luncheon is a celebration of making a difference for women and girls throughout Fairfield County. According to the Fund, when you help a woman, you help her children, extended family, community and society. When you help girls find their voices or become leaders and reach their full potential, you change the world.
This highly anticipated annual event attracts more than 800 friends and supporters from Connecticut and beyond. Their contributions impact thousands of women and girls throughout Fairfield County, they learn about the Fund’s community leadership work, and hear from women who have benefited from their philanthropy. Previous keynote speakers have included the late Dr. Maya Angelou, Geena Davis, Dr. Madeleine Albright, Soledad O’Brien, Cokie Roberts and Gloria Steinem.

Peters, Vice President, Fairfield County’s Community Foundation’s Fund for Women & Girls.
Net proceeds from the Luncheon will support the Family Economic Security Program (FESP) at Housatonic Community College. Built on the successful pilot program at Norwalk Community College, FESP will ensure that 400 low-income students, over a four period, persist, graduate and move into family-sustaining employment.

About Abby Wambach
Abby Wambach, two-time Olympic gold medalist and World Cup champion is a leader on and off the field. Recently retired, Abby is now embracing issues such as equal rights. Her drive, determination and teamwork led the US Women’s Soccer team to victory time after time, and earned her the world record for most international goals scored by a male or female player.
Abby Wambach is currently the #1 all-time leading scorer in international soccer history with 184 career goals. The USA’s dynamic leader was her country’s leading scorer in the past two Women’s World Cup tournaments, and the 2004 and 2012 Olympics. Abby is a true leader on and off the field, an ambassador for Right to Play and USAID among other organizations. In 2015, she was named one of TIME 100 Most Influential People in the World.
