Fund for Women & Girls Encourages Political Passion

(Greenwich, Conn.) Earlier this month, over eighty women with a newly discovered passion for public service attended the inaugural one-day training created by the Women’s Campaign School at Yale, a non-partisan, issue neutral political campaign training program for women interested in running for office and in campaign management.  The training was underwritten by a generous grant from Fairfield County’s Community Foundation Fund for Women & Girls. This program was held at the YWCA in Greenwich, Connecticut. Attendees hailed from throughout New York and Connecticut and spanned age ranges from as young as 21 to a significant percentage over age 50.

“We are grateful to The Fund for Women & Girls for partnering with us, and answering the clarion call of the importance of providing women with the tools and skills to effectively and successfully launch their political careers,” said, Patricia Russo, Executive Director of the Women’s Campaign School at Yale.

The Women’s Campaign School at Yale University’s mission is to increase the number and influence of women in elected and appointed office in the United States and around the globe. The Women’s Campaign School at Yale University celebrates more than twenty-three years of inspiring and training women to lead.

“With less than 30% of legislative seats in Connecticut currently held by women, Fairfield County’s Community Foundation Fund for Women & Girls is aiming to shift this paradigm by investing in trainings like this. It is imperative that women are represented at the decision-making tables, and that their voices be heard,” reflected Tricia Hyacinth, Director, Fairfield County’s Community Foundation Fund for Women & Girls. Hyacinth continues, “Many thanks to Patti Russo for an inspiring and meaningful program. The Women’s Campaign School is a vital resource and critical partner.” Fairfield County’s Community Foundation Fund for Women & Girls is giving the women who attended the training session an opportunity to apply for a scholarship to the Women’s Campaign School’s program which is valued at $1800. Two applicants will be awarded a scholarship to attend the five-day intensive course that Women’s Campaign School offers in June.
