From Capital to Community Change

Nov 24, 2025

Dear Friend,

Capital takes many forms.

We often think of capital as money—and financial capital is essential. But at the Community Foundation, we know lasting change requires more than grants: it also demands social and political capital to shape policy for progress.

Thanks to your generosity, FCCF put financial capital to work this year. We awarded $26.9 million in grants, including $3.1 million strategically invested in Fairfield County to expand education, improve health, increase housing stability, and advance economic opportunity. We also provided 445 scholarships totaling $1.7 million, helping students pursue their dreams.

We deepened our commitment to women’s health and opportunity. Through the Fund for Women and Girls, we invested $1.1 million in 27 organizations, with a focus on our signature Black Maternal Health Initiative—because birth outcomes should never depend on zip code or skin color.

Behind every investment are real people: students crossing graduation stages, families securing stable housing, and mothers delivering healthy babies. These stories drive our work—and call us to do more.

That’s where social and political capital come in. This year, we:

  • Built relationships across sectors
  • Trained residents to engage in advocacy
  • Invested in community-driven advocacy organizations
  • Partnered with lawmakers, businesses, and community leaders to expand opportunity

In 2026, we will continue advocating for policies that help more families flourish, ensure every student has access to a quality education, and expand housing opportunities across our region.

As we look ahead, here are three meaningful ways to make a difference right now:

1. Give with intention. Unrestricted gifts to trusted nonprofits—and to FCCF’s strategic funds—enable organizations to meet the moment. If you hold a donor-advised fund, consider a year-end grant to fuel frontline work.

2. Add your voice. Join our Advocate with the Allies series (Tuesdays, 6–7:30 pm: Dec 9, Jan 13). We’ll equip you with clear actions, resources, and a community of neighbors who care. Advocate with The Allies.

3. Stay connected. We’ll continue sharing updates on housing, family stability, early childhood, and education—so your philanthropy and advocacy reinforce each other.

This season we are grateful for all the ways you show up—for your neighbors, for our community, and for the future we’re building together.

In Community,
